More Info

Sydney Marie Brotheridge passed away tragically at the age of 22, but her passion for science and drive to make the world a better place lives on. Through this scholarship, Indiana University undergraduates can follow in her footsteps in the pursuit of a Neuroscience degree—and your support will mean that students have the opportunity to learn and increase our understanding of brain sciences.

Sydney earned a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in Psychological and Brain Sciences in 2017. After graduation, she went on to what she described as her “dream job,” working as a researcher in Morogoro, Tanzania. She worked with a team of researchers to study and prepare African giant-pouched rats to perform new tasks such as detecting landmines and identifying positive tuberculosis tests—all in an effort to improve conditions for people all over the world.

This scholarship fund will help make it possible for future generations of aspiring scientists to pursue their dreams by supporting undergraduate students who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience degree in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University.

Sydney spoke often of how grateful she was to work on projects that had such direct impact on people’s lives. Your support can help pay that gratitude forward by supporting future students at IU, whose dreams may follow similar paths.

Per Indiana University Foundation policy, new endowment accounts which do not become fully funded at the required stated minimum through pledges/gifts at the time of the establishment of the account and through fulfilled pledges/gifts after five years will be converted, and all gifts will be made available to support the intent outlined in the supporting agreement.
