From rural towns to bursting metropolitan areas, in state and national parks, in schools, universities, in hospitality and healthcare institutions, as well as community organizations, corporations, and non-profits, our 7,000 alumni are improving health, enhancing quality of life, and helping to prevent disease right here and around the world.

Founded in 1946 as part of the then Indiana University School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, both our department and the school's mission have evolved as it transformed into the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington. Recognizing that the major health challenges of the 21st century are in large part behavior related, the school has the bold charge of reimaginging public health. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such an important mission.

While we’ve accomplished much in the last 70 years, the next 70 years promise to be both challenging and rewarding:

  • We're blazing a trail in the realm of public health through our innovative programs that play an integral role in educating future recreation professionals and conducting research with a public health focus.
  • With an increased effort to integrate the importance of recreation, parks, and tourism with the health and vitality of individuals and communities, we are engaging with many communities to highlight the intentional provision of leisure opportunities links to positive health outcomes.
  • Our students are working with Indiana University to beautify and enhance the grounds around the School of Public Health building with the intention of creating a park-like setting that shows the value of well-planned spaces supported by the latest research and best practices.
  • We've launched a new, first of its kind, international interdisciplinary academic journal "Recreation, Parks, and Tourism in Public Health" that shares research and community models that focus on the relation between parks, recreation and tourism, and their impact on healthier lifestyles.

Your support is vital to ensure that we can attract, retain, support, and educate the next generation of achievers. YOU can help make the difference in creating a better world.

Your suggested contribution of just $70.00 in honor of our 70th anniversary celebration is much appreciated!

Thank you!
